The Peninsula Oilers and Anchorage Bucs split a Friday doubleheader at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage; as Oilers pitchers allow only two runs in two Alaska Baseball League games.
Game One: Oilers 0 -Bucs 1
The Anchorage Bucs broke-up a no -hit bid by Oilers starter Raymond Kerr in the seventh inning of a scheduled seven inning game; then scored the games only run with a two out, two hit attack in the eighth for a 1-0 Buc victory.
Kerr pitched into the seventh allowing no hits and no runs; reliever Jonathon Vizcaino surrendered two hits and the game winner in the eighth.
Game Two: Oilers 5 – Bucs 1
The Oilers defense and pitching held the Bucs in check in game two, allowing only a sixth inning run to the Bucs in the Peninsula Oilers 5-1 win. Oilers starter Aaron Shoup pitched five innings and allowed one run and one hit for the win. Caleb Hicks earns the save with two innings of work allowing no runs and two hits.
John Thomas recorded two RBI in the victory and increased his RBI total to five against the Bucs in three games.
For the doubleheader, the Oilers allowed only two runs and six hits through 15 innings.
The Oilers travel to Chugiak to face the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks on Saturday. Game time scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
