Oilers Split Doubleheader With Chinooks

Game 1: Oilers starter Emerson Fleck (Washington State) and Chinooks starter, Bradyn Adams, battled back and forth for the first two innings neither pitcher allowing a run. Oilers offense however would once again prevail in the third inning, plating three runs, om four hits and a reached base of an error.

 

Fleck ran into his first bit of trouble in the fourth when the Chinooks plated two runs to cut the O’s lead to one headed into the fifth inning. Luckily for Fleck and the Oilers the bats would reheat in the fifth. Cole Dawson (Arkansas Tech), Colin Robson (Rice), Ty Thomas (Mt Sac) and Max Roffwarg (Swarthmore) recorded consecutive hits to start things off.

 

The Oilers would go on to pile on three more runs in the inning, and take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth. Oilers pitching staff slammed the door on the Chinooks with scoreless baseball the rest of the day from Fleck and relief pitcher Colby Reynolds (Johnson)

 

With the win the Oilers improved their record to 10-7 with the win extending their lead of second place over the third place Mat Su Miners.

Game 2: The Oilers dropped game two in a slow offensive stretch of seven innings by a final score of 1-0.

 

Chinook’s pitching staff was out for revenge in game two and held the Oilers to three hits total in the contest. Starter Frankie Gulko went six and a third innings, giving up no runs on two hits and racked up five strikeouts.

 

Chugiak scored the only run in the game that was started by a double off the bat of RJ Rickabaugh. Rickabaugh would come around to score and give his squad a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.

 

Unlike the first game, the Oilers offense became stagnant and couldn’t find a way to rally around impressive pitching from Rickabaugh and Galvin Alveti. Cody New (Cal Baptist)  had two of the team’s three hits in the loss.

 

The Oilers drop to 10-8 on the season and will look to battle back as they take on the Miners tomorrow on America’s Birthday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
