Oilers Top ABL Leader With 8-5 Win Over Miners

A five-run fourth inning and quality relief pitching pushed the Peninsula Oilers past the Mat-Su Miners 8-5 in Alaska Baseball League action on Friday night at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

 

Oilers 8 – Miners 5

The ABL leading Miners opened a three-run lead in the top of the second inning; then, the Oilers posted two runs in the bottom of the inning.  In the fourth, the Miners scored twice for a 5-2 lead.  The Oilers plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth, opening with four, straight singles.  Leading 7-5, the Oilers added an insurance run in the sixth which proved to be the final run of the game.

Peninsula starter Conner Kershaw struggled through four innings allowing five earned runs on six hits and three walks.  Mose Hayes threw three middle innings and did not allow a run, striking out five batters for the win.  Mason Kokodynski and Drake Frize each pitched one inning to close the game.

Dalton Bowling lead the Oilers offense with a 2 for 3 night with three RBI, including a two-run home run in the second inning.

 

The Oilers have split the first two games of the five-game series with the Miners.
