Oilers Top Bucs 5-1 On Opening Night

The Peninsula Oilers opened the 2018 ABL season downing the Anchorage Bucs 5-1 at Coral Seymour Memorial Park, fueled by strong pitching and solid defense; a season opening, Alaska Baseball League victory for the Peninsula Oilers.

The Penisula Oilers took advantage of four Anchorage Buc errors, scoring four, unearned runs en route to a 5-1 victory over the Anchorage Bucs.

 

The Oilers recorded only four hits for the contest; however, converted a combination of hits and Bucs’ errors into a three-run fourth inning and a two-run sixth inning.  Evan Berkey lead the Oilers offense with a 2 for 4 day at the plate, including a triple and two RBI.

The Oilers opened up the scoring in the fourth frame scoring Tyler Duke.  Ryan Koch plated Duke with an RBI single and Berkey drove in Koch with an RBI  triple.  In the sixth, the Oilers again took advantage of Bucs errors, scoring two, unearned runs on two hits and two errors scoring Kuntz and Grant Wood.

Oilers starter Mike Lopez delivered five scoreless innings allowing four hits and recording two strikeouts.  Ryan Silva and Bret Ricklefs followed Lopez combining to allow combined one run on three hits in four innings of relief.

 

Oilers Homestand Continues Through The Weekend

The Oilers take on the Bucs in game two of the six-game series Friday at 7 p.m. at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.  Saturday’s contest is also scheduled for a 7 p.m. starting with the Oilers teaming with the Kenai River Brown Bears for a free night of baseball.  Sunday is Old Town Bingo day with a scheduled doubleheader; game one starting at 2 p.m..  Free admission on Sunday.
