According to a press release from the City of Homer, the Anchor Point resident who passed away had pre-existing underlying health conditions and tested positive for COVID-19 upon admittance to South Peninsula Hospital last week.
In a statement provided by Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce: “I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends as they grieve the passing of their loved one. The loss experienced in Anchor Point is certainly a somber reminder that we must continue to practice the safeguards against spreading this disease.”

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported one new positive COVID-19 case in their Wednesday update. That makes the total positive case count in the state 372. The new positive case is out of the Southeast Fairbanks area. One new death, an Anchor Point resident, has also been reported. That raises the total to ten cumulative fatalities in Alaska.
The total number of recovered patients, as of Wednesday’s update, stands at 284.
The number of active cases in the state is 78. The active case-count has not been at 100 or higher since April 23.
The total number of tests conducted in the state thus far is 23,655.
These cases are reported using the state’s timetable of reporting counts: 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on May 5.
