The Department of Transportation is hosting an open house on the evening of May 19 for the Sterling Highway Project Milepost 58-79.
McCarthy: “And that’s the Sterling Highway between Skilak Lake Road, near historic milepost milepost 58, and the Kenai Keys Road, near historic MP 79.”
Department of Transportation’s Shannon McCarthy detailed some of the scope of the project.
McCarthy: “So the purpose is to improve safety and traffic flow in that section of highway, they’re talking about rehabilitating the existing highway and installing passing lanes. Some of the rehabilitation would be widened shoulders, improving the alignment and of course improving the drainage. I know that wildlife crossing is a focus of this project so they’ll be looking at enhancements such as wildlife under-crossings.”
The public is invited to attend the open house on Tuesday, May 19, from 4:30 – 7:30 pm at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center where members of the design team will be available to answer questions and present some of the design plan options.
