The dipnet fishery on the north beach at the mouth of the Kenai River was busy but relaxed this morning.
Family members sat in the sun while others waded in and out of the waves, the spacing between dipnetters shrinking with the proximity to the mouth of the river.
KSRM spoke with Pamela Arthur who had just netted a decent sized fish…
Although the fishery opened for its first day at 6:00 am this morning, most people said they waited until the tide came in around 9:20 am to get in the water and start fishing.
It was difficult to find Kenai Peninsula residents fishing, most dipnetters spoken to were from Anchorage or the Mat-Su Valley.
The fish were reportedly small, but it appeared a larger school was moving into the area.
When asked, most indicated they did not follow fish counts closely but hear regularly about fish issues on the news.
Overall the shores of the Kenai were lined with families and amiable fisher people.
