During its last session, the State Legislature passed a bill that no longer requires the high school graduation qualifying exam for seniors to graduate.
Pegge Erkeneff with the Kenai Peninsula School District…
Erkeneff: “So now what students have to do is take a college or career ready assessment to get a diploma and so the new career ready assessment is going to be the work keys job skills assessment system which we’ve been doing for a long time, but the college ready assessment portion will be a choice of the ACT test of the SAT test and the state will pay for one of those tests, for each of our students every year.”
She detailed how it will be helpful.
Erkeneff: “The Alaska Performance Scholarship that the State of Alaska does, as well as them being able to offer these during the in school time as well as if students want to retake a SAT test or ACT test or want to take both of them they can do those at their own costs and do those multiple times.”
