Racing in her second final event in less than 90 minutes, Allie Ostrander followed-up her national championship in the 3000M Steeplechase with a solid performance and an eighth place finish in the 5000M final at the NCAA Women’s Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.
Allie Ostrander attempted to become the first female collegiate runner to win the 3000M Steeplechase and the 5000M run in the same championship and the first female to win two distance event finals on the same day of the national championships.
Allie Ostrander finished eighth overall posting a time of 15:46.50.
5000M Race Recap
A full field of 24 runners, Ostrander battled in the middle of the pack at 10 laps to go. With four laps remaining, Ostrander moved up in the lead pack to sixth. Eighth with three laps remaining, the lead pack opened up and Ostrander stayed in the seventh/eighth position. On the inside of lane one, Ostrander had to move out when the leaders extended, standing in eighth on the bell lap. Allie Ostrander finishes eighth in the 5000M final.
Missouri’s Karrissa Schweizer repeated as the 2018 5000M champion in a time of 15:41.5.
