Ostrander Outraces Field At Nike Cross Nationals

Allie Ostrander, KCHS senior and three-time Alaska state champion in cross country running, proved her dominance of Alaska’s distance events now extends to the whole of the United States; as Ostrander raced to the girls championship at the 2014 Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon on Saturday.

 

Allie Ostrander posted a time of 17:19 in the 5 kilometer girls championship race, with a pace time of 5:35 for the race.

Ostrander, the Northwest Regional runner-up, outraced the field of 199 runners posting her fastest time of her racing career in the 5K distance.  The field for the Nike Cross featured six of the top 10 girls in the Dyestat rankings, including Ostrander, ranked third and Fiona O’Keefe, ranked second; Allie distanced herself from O’Keefe at the four kilometer mark and pulled away from Paige Hofstad for the championship.  Allie was in the lead pack throughout the 5-K race on the Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland.

 

Ostrander holds the fastest times and state records for Alaska in the 1600M and 3200M in track and field and the course and state record at the Alaska cross country running championships.  Allie becomes Alaska’a first national event champion in high school distance running.

The Nike Cross Nationals along with the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (scheduled for Saturday, December 13th) are considered the top races to close-out the high school distance racing season.
