Allie Ostrander, KCHS senior and Alaska’s fastest high school distance runner, posted the fastest 3200M race time in the nation for 2015 on Friday at the Big C Relays in the Anchorage Dome.
Ostrander posted a time of 9:59.33, breaking the 10-minute milestone on the 400+ meter indoor track at The Dome.
The Big C Relays spotlight event, the Elite Coed 3200M, featured Alaska state champions Ostrander and Kodiak’s Levi Thomet, both setting national bests in the 3200M event.
The race format allowed Ostrander to begin 70-seconds before the boys field and also allowed for a “rabbit” to help pace runners. Ostrander finished five seconds in front of Kodiak’s Levi Thomet, who raced to a 8:54.24; the fastest male, high school 3200M time of the 2015 season.
Ostrander was able to use Kenai teammate Jonah Theisen as a pacesetter through laps four through seven (rabbits or pacing is not allowed in sanctioned regional and state high school competition).
