Allie Ostrander, with an impressive 4th Place finish in her heat of the 5000M qualifier, advances to the Women’s 5000M Final at the USA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
Allie Ostrander competed against the best distance runners in the United States on Thursday at the USA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships competing for a spot on the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
Allie Ostrander, a graduate of Kenai Central High School, current Boise State track champion, NCAA Division 1 runner-up in cross country running and Mountain West Indoor Women’s Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year raced in the second heat of two heats in the Women’s 5000M at the national championships in Eugene, Oregon at Hayward Field.
5000M 2nd Heat Race Breakdown
Allie opened the first 1000M in 3:06.36 in 9th place in a tightly-packed field. At the 2200M mark, Allie sat in 10th place posting a 6:53.92. At the 3000M post, Allie stood in 10th at 9:27.82. Allie moved up on the field to 7th at the 3400M mark and in 6th at 3800M. Down the stretch, Allie moved to 5th at 4200M and hit the final lap in 4th place at 14:21.36.
Allie earned her Finals position finishing 4th in the second heat with a total time of 15:27.13
Molly Huddle, past USA olympian, won the Women’s 5000M second heat in 15:26.33.
The top six runners in each of the two heats automatically qualifies to the Women’s 5000M finals on Sunday.
The 5000M Final is scheduled for Sunday, July 10th, the final day of competition at the track and field national championships. Race time is scheduled for 3:28 p.m.
USA Olympic Trials Qualifying
Allie has posted the 12th fastest qualifying time of the declared entrants (as of July 5th). Allie ran a 15:21.85 at the University of Washington Invitational Indoor Meet. Allie did not compete in the outdoor season for Boise State. Allie will be the only collegiate runner in the field for the 5000M.

NBC’s coverage on Saturday, July 9, at 8 p.m. ET includes the finals in men’s 110m hurdles, 200m, 5000m, triple jump, and women’s javelin. Sunday’s coverage will highlight the finals in the men’s and women’s 1500m, men’s and women’s 400m hurdles, women’s 200m, and men’s high jump.
