The 2014 Region III Cross Country Running Championships crowned individual and team champions in both the 4A and 1-2-3A divisions, with races held in Kodiak.
4A Cross Country Results: Girls
Allie Ostrander raced to her fourth-straight Region III championship, setting a new course record for the Bear Valley Golf Course. Ostrander covered the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 48 seconds; over two minutes faster than the previous record.
SoHi’s Olivia Hutchings placed second in the 4A race, with teammates Dani McCormick (5th) , Daisy Nelson (10th), and Sadie Fox (15) leading the Stars. Kenai’s Riana Boonstra placed sixth for the Kardinals.
The team championship came down to a tie-breaker between the SoHi girls and Colony girls, both teams recording 50 points. The Knights win the title on the sixth-man tiebreaker; both team qualify to the state championships.
The Kardinal girls qualify to the state championships with a third place team finish.
4A Cross Country Results: Boys
Kodiak’s Levi Thomet raced to his third-straight Region III championship and paced the Bears to the team title, setting a new course record of 16 minutes, 03 seconds.
Kenai’s Jonah Theisen finished second and Jordan Theisen finished third in the 4A race; add in Travis Cooper with an eighth for the Kardinals.
The Kardinal boys qualify to the state championships with a third place team finish.
Allie Ostrander and Levi Thomet were named Female and Male Athlete of the Year for Region III 4A.
1-2-3A Cross Country Results
The Homer Mariners claim both the girls and boys team titles in the 1-2-3A division.
Megan Pitzman and Molly Mitchell finished one-two in the girls race. The Mariners advance to the 1-2-3A state championships.
