COOPER LANDING — A late-night fire ripped through a multi-story structure in Cooper Landing early Friday morning, prompting a wide-ranging emergency response and threatening nearby structures and wildland.
According to Cooper Landing Emergency Services (CLES), crews were dispatched just after 12:30 a.m. to find the residence fully engulfed in flames, with the fire actively spreading to adjacent buildings and surrounding vegetation. Thanks to swift action, all occupants escaped unharmed — including the homeowners’ flock of chickens.
Multiple agencies joined the effort to battle the blaze, including Central Emergency Services, Moose Pass Volunteer Fire Company, Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection, U.S. Forest Service – Chugach National Forest, Alaska State Troopers, and Chugach Electric, among others. Firefighting crews are expected to remain on-site for several days as they continue mop-up operations in the affected wildland areas.
“This is the second all-nighter in a row for our volunteers,” CLES shared in a social media post. “They work full-time jobs in addition to this important community service. We even put our ICS-trained board members to work last night and we appreciate their backup as well.”
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
