Update 8:00 – Traffic is free the travel along the Sterling Highway. K-Beach traffic, however, is being routed through the parking lot of The Goods. The semi-truck is still on the road as crews attempt to get it removed.

Original Story:

An overturned Semi-Truck at the intersection of K-Beach and the Sterling Highway is causing delays to traffic in all directions. Soldotna Police and Alaska State Troopers are on scene.

According to Soldotna Police Chief Gene Meek, a tractor-trailer hauling drywall overturned while attempting to turn off the Sterling Highway onto K-Beach. Meek says a braking error caused the drywall load to shift unexpectedly and flipped the truck and trailer on their sides.

“Currently, we are looking at methods of clearing the intersection and stopping the flow of traffic,” said Chief Meek. “Traffic will be stopped in its entirety around 6:15 in the evening so that we can pull that tractor-trailer upright. If it can’t be pulled upright, then we’ll shut down the road probably for several hours as the drywall will need to be offloaded.”

No one was injured in the accident.
