Panners Rally For Walk-Off Victory Over Oilers

The Peninsula Oilers surrendered four runs in the final inning and the Alaska Goldpanners rallied for a 6-5, seven inning victory at Growden Park on Wednesday night in Fairbanks.

 

Oilers 5 – Goldpanners 6

Trailing 5-2 into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Goldpanners loaded the bases with one out and plated a run on a fielder’s choice.  Moss Hayes entered in relief for the Oilers with two outs and runner’s on first and third.  The Panner’s scored a pair of runs on a two-RBI double down the third base line. Then, Dominic Hughes delivered an RBI fly ball to walk-off with a 6-5 win in seven innings.

 

The Oilers built a 4-0 lead through four innings before Fairbanks scored a pair of runs in the fifth.  A three-run, third inning staked the Oilers to a 3-0 lead with runs scored by James Shimashita, Casey Burnham, Noah Hennings.  The Oilers added a run in the fifth scoring Trey Becker and a seventh inning run scored by Becker.  Moss Hayes is tagged with the loss after recording a save in Tuesday’s opener.

 

The Oilers and Panners will play a final seven-inning game in the opening series in Fairbanks on Thursday night scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start time.

 

The Oilers follow-up their Fairbanks swing and begin Alaska Baseball League play Saturday, June 11th with a double-header against the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Park.  The Oilers home opener is set for Wednesday, June 22nd against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots.
