Paul Moses, a 41 year Soldotna resident, passed away last Friday, but friends like Merrill Sikorski remember his smiling face and sense of humor that he brought to every endeavor he undertook.
Sikorski: “He was humorous, he had a heart to help, he had a patience, when he was on the city council, even the newspapers wrote about ‘the popular city councilman Paul Moses’. He would always help you at SBS or State Mechanical was where I first met him, no matter how many people were waiting in line.”
While Moses was born in New York in 1946, Sikorski says he embodied the meaning of “Alaskan” because of his willingness to treat everyone equally.
That extended to Moses’ common sense approach that he used in order to listen to both sides of issues during his terms on the Soldotna City Council and Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly.
Sikorski: “I think his greatest legacy is that happiness that he instilled, whether he was dealing with a controversial issue in the city or on the borough, or talking about national politics, whenever you walked away from a conversation with Paul you felt good.”
Sikorski says Moses always reminded people that despite hiccups in life, it’ll be alright.
Sikorski: “You wake up in the morning and when you’re breathing, it’s going to be alright. And I think for those of us who always felt that with him, he’s going to be missed greatly, because it would be alright. Whether it was a Ronald Reagan presidency or a Jimmy Carter presidency, you talk about all those things and then in the end it would be alright.”
Moses is survived by his wife Helena, who he met in 1965 when he got stationed in Anchorage with the U.S. Air Force, as well as his three children, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
A celebration of life for Paul Moses will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 26, at Cook Inlet Academy on K-Beach Road.
