Representative Mary Sattler Peltola (AK-AL) announced $53,998,114 in FY24 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grants awarded via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Alaska roads and ports.

“Between permafrost, rising seas, and decades of under-investment from the Lower 48, Alaska roads and ports are long overdue for an upgrade, ” said Representative Peltola. “This funding helps make that possible. I’m proud to be Alaska’s advocate in the House of Representatives.”

“After decades of underinvestment, the condition of Alaska’s infrastructure is now finally getting better instead of worse – and today we proudly announce our support for 148 more projects in communities across the country, including Alaska” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “Through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we’re funding projects across the country to make roads safer, make it easier for people to move around their community, make transportation infrastructure more resilient to extreme weather, and improve supply chains to keep costs down for consumers.”

Peltola secured $25 million for the State of Alaska, which will go towards the Alaska Highway Permafrost Degradation Restoration project.

This project will restore approximately 45 miles of the Alaska Highway impacted by thawing permafrost and other climate change-related degradation. Activities will include aggregate source development and production, drainage improvements, restoration of highway slopes and surfaces, resurfacing with bituminous surface treatment, restoration and replacement of guardrail, and installation of thermosyphons.

As for the Port Development Project Nulato Village, she secured $3,998,114.00.

This project will fund the planning, permitting, and engineering design for the commercial port development and bank armoring on the Yukon River, as well as dock facilities in Mukluk Slough.

City and Borough of Wrangell was able to have @$25 million allotted to go towards the Wrangell Harbor Basin Revitalization and Transportation Resiliency Project.

This project will plan, design, and construct float and anchoring systems within the Wrangell Harbor Basin. The project will also construct water, electrical, and fire suppression systems, as well as relocate Inner Harbor parking.
