Penalties Cost Stars Conference Pairing With Palmer

The Palmer Moose pushed past the Soldotna Stars with four, unanswered goals in the third period for a 7-3 Railbelt Conference victory for Palmer as the Moose remain unbeaten in conference play.

 

Palmer 7 – SoHi 3

The first three combined goals were 5-on-5 with Palmer opening the scoring, SoHi answering with a Jace Applehans goal and Palmer responding with a goal for a 2-1 Moose lead.

The following seven goals were all penalty influenced with five power-play goals, a short-handed goal and a 4-on-4 goal.

The first period ended with Palmer leading 3-2 with a power-play goal by Elijah Von Gunten and a short-handed SoHi goal by Aiden Burcham.

 

SoHi tied the game 3-3 in the second period with a power-play goal scored by Dawson Lockwood.

 

Multiple penalties by the Stars and multiple power-play goals by the Moose in the third period accounted for four, unanswered Moose goals.  A Ryan Martin power-play goal staked Palmer to a 4-3 lead early in the third period.  Elijah Von Gunten scored three, straight goals for a four-goal hat trick including two power-play goals and a 4-on-4 goal.

SoHi committed eight penalties in the third period, attributing to all four Palmer goals.

 

Palmer improves to 3-0 in the Railbelt Conference; SoHi drops to 2-1.

 

Palmer faces Kenai on Friday and Saturday at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility.  Friday’s game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and Saturday for a noon drop of the puck.
