Three additional Soldotna High School student-athletes are committing to Letters of Intent to participate in college athletics in the 2018-19 academic year.  Also, a Kenai-area raised hockey player commits to college-level hockey.

 

Shaylynn Zener

Soldotna High School senior Shaylynn Zener signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Southwestern Oregon on Monday, January 29th.  Saylynn helped lead the SoHi girls to a berth at the ASAA 4A State Volleyball Championships.  Southwestern Oregon, located in Coos Bay, Oregon, is a community college which competes in the Southern Region of the NWAC (Northwest Athletic Conference).

Brenner Furlong

Brenner Furlong, 2017 1st Team ALL-USA Alaska Football running back, 2017 Division II Offensive Player of the Year, 2016 Alaska Gatorade Football Player of the Year, and 2017 400M state champion; signed a National Letter of Intent to both play football and run track at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota.  Dakota State is a NAIA institution and competes in the North Star Conference.

Whitney Wortham

SoHi senior soccer player Whitney Wortham will be signing her letter of intent to play soccer at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington on Friday, February 2nd at 7:00 a.m. in the SoHi library.  Clark College is a 2-year, public institution which competes in the NWAC (Northwest Athletic Conference).

Benjamin Barton

Benjamin Barton, age 21 from Kenai, has signed to play hockey for Assumption College in Worchester Massachusetts.  Assumption College plays in the NCAA Division II in the Northeast 10 Conference.

 

National Letter of Intent signing periods vary from governing institution, NCAA and/or NAIA, and vary depending on sport.  NCAA Letter of Intent signing periods are strictly delineated; other governing bodies has differing rules and restrictions.  No athlete is required to sign a Letter of Intent to participate in collegiate athletics.
