Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament Opens First Round

The 2021 Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament, which features 1A schools from the Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage, opened at Soldotna High School on Thursday, March 18th and runs through Saturday’s championship games.

 

Lumen Christi School of Anchorage is the host school with all games scheduled for SoHi.

The Peninsula Conference tournament holds its championship games on Friday, allowing for a double-back round on Saturday to determine the 2nd Place teams.

 

Girls: Cook Inlet Academy, Lumen Christi, Ninilchik and Birchwood Academy

Boys: Cook Inlet Academy, Lumen Christi, Ninilchik, Nikolaevsk and Birchwood Academy

 

KSRM 920 AM will broadcast three games on Thursday, the championship games on Friday and the 2nd place games on Saturday.  All broadcast games will be streamed live and free at radiokenai.com

First Round Results: Thursday, March 18

Cook Inlet Boys 48 – Birchwood 38   Cole Moore scored 18 and Mason Ziegler added 14 for CIA.

Lumen Girls 61 – Ninilchik 19  Natalie Grubba scored 19 for Lumen.

Ninilchik Boys 73 – Nikolaevsk 46   Five players in double figures for the Wolverines lead by Landon Colburn with 17 and George Nelson with 15 points.  The Wolverines made 13, 3-point baskets.

Cook Inlet Girls 35 – Birchwood 30  Tatum Rozak scored 18 for CIA.

Lumen Christi 82 – CIA 47

The tournament will crown a conference champion and award a 1A state tournament berth in both the girls and boys bracket.  The Peninsula Conference, in an attempt to consolidate the 1A state tournament by ASAA, has been reduced to a single automatic berth to the state tournament and the second place teams will possibly be eligible for an at-large berth.
