Peninsula Schools Post First-Round Victories At Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament

The 2018 Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament featuring 1A basketball teams from the Peninsula, Anchorage and Wasilla, opened four days of competition on Wednesday, February 28th at Lumen Christi School in Anchorage.

 

The tournament is a double-elimination format for both girls and boys teams, with the championship games scheduled for Friday night, March 2nd and second-place games for Saturday afternoon on March 3rd.  The tournament champion and tournament 2nd-place finisher qualify to the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships scheduled for March 14-17 at the Alaska Airlines Center at UAA in Anchorage.

 

The reigning 1A state champion boys from Ninilchik opened defense of their title in the tournament’s first game with a 44 – 32 victory over Wasilla Lake.   The Nikolaevsk girls, state qualifiers since 2013, will have to double-back after a first round loss to host Lumen Christi 46-41.
