Peninsula Conference Soccer Tournament Opens With Play-In Games: Semi-Finals Set For Friday

The 2018 Peninsula Conference Soccer Tournament,the first conference tournament under the new two division soccer format, opened Thursday at Soldotna High School with play-in games for the #4 and #5 seeds in the five team conference tournament.

The Nikiski girls advance with a 2-0 victory over the Seward Seahawks; the Seward boys also advance by downing Nikiski 3-1 in first round action.

 

Nikiski Girls 2 – Seward 0

America Jefferies scored a pair of goals and Abby Bystedt recorded the shut out in goal for Nikiski .  Jefferies scored on a first-half, penalty kick and scored an insurance goal late in the game.

Nikiski advances to play the tournament’s #1 seed Soldotna in the 5 p.m. game on Friday at Soldotna High School.

Nikiski Boys 1 – Seward 3

The Nikiski boys managed only a single, Michael Mysing goal in the boys opening contest at the Peninsula tournament.

The Seward boys advance to play the tournament’s #1 seed Kenai in the 7 p.m. game on Friday at Soldotna High School.

The Soldotna girls earn the top seed with a 9-0-1 conference record, based on regular season play.  The Homer girls at 7-2-1 earn the #2 seed; followed by Kenai (7-3); Nikiski  (3-7); and Seward (3-7).

Boys Seeding and Brackets

The Kenai boys earn the #1 seed with a regular season 7-0-1 conference record.  Homer (5-2-1) is seeded second followed by SoHi (5-3), Seward (1-7) and Nikiski (1-7).
