Passionate about her family and our community, Lara Rogers-McGinnis is recovering after a serious head-on car accident last Monday, March 16.
She was headed south on the highway when a moving van driven by 24-year old John Poiane, driving for Continental Van Lines, lost control in snowy and icy conditions, striking McGinnis head-on.
Troopers determined Poiane was driving with a suspended license.
Rogers-McGinnis is the Executive Director of the Kenai Peninsula Fair Association, and mother to two young men. She’s required facial reconstructive surgery and an operation to place pins in her knees. Her injuries included a broken femur in one leg and a broken tibia in the other, along with orthopedic injuries.
Friends say Lara is simply lucky to be alive, but faces long road to recovery. As of Wednesday evening, more than 90 people have donated and nearly met their fundraising goal of $7,000 through the charitable donation site gofundme.com.
