Peninsula Girls Earn 4th At State Hockey Invitational

The Peninsula girls combined hockey team found their offense in the 4th-place game on Saturday at the 2023 Alaska Girls Hockey State Invitational with a 4-0 victory over Service/East at Ben Boeke Arena in Anchorage.

 

Peninsula 4 – Service/East 0   4th Place Game

The Kenai Peninsula hockey team, comprised of high school girls from SoHi, KCHS and Homer, shut out the Service/East team 4-0 in the 4th-place game at the seven-team invitational hockey tournament.

Liberty Miller, SoHi senior, scored two goals; KCHS’s Lexi Taylor and SoHi’s Julie Ann Nye each recorded single goals in the 4-0 victory.  In goal, Seanna Swanson (KCHS) and Kacey Cunningham (KCHS) combined for 24 saves splitting duties between the pipes.

 

In Friday’s consolation game, the Peninsula team fell to Chugiak/Eagler River 4-1 with a single goal by Lexi Taylor.  Kacey Cunningham recorded 41 saves on 45 shots in goal for Peninsula.

For the tournament, Cunningham and Swanson totaled 99 saves on 104 shots for a save percentage of .952%.
