A local man’s design has been chosen for the 2016 Mt. Marathon Race through the annual logo contest. 31-year-old Adam Segura grew up on the Kenai Peninsula and says his fond memories of 4th of July celebrations in Seward influenced the idea for the design.

Each year the logo is chosen through a design contest, but this won’t be the only change to the race this year. Seward Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cindy Clock…

Clock: “Especially after last season, I believe it was Holly Brooks who was the voice of the Women’s Race saying ‘Why isn’t the Women’s Race being televised?’, so I’m pretty sure that may happen as well. But as far as alternating race times, they decided for the first time ever that the Women’s Race would be held in the afternoon as the last race, so it’s going to switch with the Men’s.”

The Junior Race will be bumped up by 30 minutes to 9:00 am, the Men’s Race will be bumped up 15 minutes to 11:00 am, and for the first time ever women will race last at 2:30 pm.

The designer of this year’s logo says he has never run the race but his sisters have. Segura says he is excited to take his family to watch the Mt. Marathon finishers this year.
