Peninsula Oilers Clinch Season Series Against Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks

The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 4-2 on a season-high 15 hits in the series finale on Tuesday at Lee Jordan Field. The Oilers with the win, improve to 19-16, and now own the head-to-head match up against the Chinooks.

The Oilers with the win over the Chinooks and a Mat-Su Miners loss to the Pilots on Tuesday, pulled within two games of the top team in the Alaska Baseball League standings, setting up the final two contests with the Miners, Wednesday and Friday, which carry major implications on league standings.

The Chinooks scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning against Oilers starter Bryan Woo on a passed ball with a runner at third base.

The Oilers responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second with three consecutive hits with two outs. An RBI double by Tyler Duke and a Zack Zalesky RBI triple gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead.

The Oilers scored their third run in the third on a Paul Kunst RBI double.

The Oilers pitching staff allowed a combined two runs, on four hits and nine strikeouts.

After Chinooks plated their second run in the eighth against Oilers reliever Bret Ricklefs.

The Oilers responded with a final run in the ninth when Ryan Koch scored on a two-base throwing error.

Calvin Farris, who began the game in the outfield for the Oilers, threw the final 2.2 innings to preserve the win, and to record his second save of the season.

 

Oilers Continue Road Trip With Showdown Against Mat-Su Miners On Wednesday

The Oilers (19-16), currently in second in the ABL standings, travel to Hermon Brothers Field to play the league leading Mat-Su Miners (21-14) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Oilers take on the Anchorage Bucs on Thursday at Mulcahy Stadium at 7 p.m., before closing out the road trip against the Miners on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Oilers return to Coral Seymour Memorial Park on Tuesday, July 24th against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots for their final home stand of the season.
