Peninsula Oilers Defeat Anchorage Bucs 6-5 On Sunday

The Peninsula Oilers, a day after being swept by the Anchorage Bucs in a double-header, salvage a 6-5 win Sunday, at Mulcahy Stadium. The win pushes the Oilers to 14-11, the Bucs drop to 12-12 with the loss.

The Oilers opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, scoring five runs against Bucs starter Alex Segal, who’s night finished after 2.1 innings pitched.

The Bucs scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the frame against Oilers starter Christian Winston, closing the gap to a 5-2 Oilers lead.

The Bucs struck for two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Jake Vieth, his third home run of the weekend cut the Oilers lead to 5-4.

Oilers reliever Matt Amrhein made his Alaska Baseball League debut following Winston, who finished after 4.1 innings pitched, by tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

The Oilers added a sixth run in the top of the sixth on an Evan Berkey RBI single, which gave the Oilers a 6-4 lead.

The Bucs tacked on another unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning, bringing the score back to within one run, on a 6-5 score.

Oilers reliever Bret Ricklefs tossed a scoreless bottom of the ninth to secure the Oilers 14th win of the season, and his third save of the ABL season.

 

Oilers Begin Showdown Against Mat-Su Miners Wednesday

The top two teams in the ABL square-off Wednesday, in the first of a five-game series beginning at 7 p.m at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

The series continues throughout the weekend, with the final game scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Miners enter the series as the top seed in the ABL. The season series between the Oilers and Miners is tied 2-2.
