Peninsula Oilers Dismantle Mat-Su Miners 8-2

The Peninsula Oilers, behind strong pitching and explosive hitting clinched an 8-2 win over the Mat-Su Miners, Wednesday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park. The win advanced the Oilers to 15-11, one game behind of the Miners for the top spot in the Alaska Baseball League, the loss drop the Miners to 16-10.

The Miners tallied the first two runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning against Oilers starter Mike Lopez, giving the Miners a 2-0 lead.

Entering the bottom of the fifth, the Oilers were no-hit by Miners starter Brady Corrigan, who had only allowed three Oilers base-runners. The Oilers struck for six-runs against the Miners starter, propelled by a pair of three-run home runs by Matthew Kirk and Ryan Koch, which lead to the Oilers taking a 6-2 lead after five innings.

The Oilers added their seventh run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, on an RBI double by Chad Bible. Bible went 1-2 with a pair of walks in his ABL debut.

The Oilers tacked on their eighth run of the contest on a Ryan Novis RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Oilers an 8-2 lead.

The Oilers lead the season series against the Miners 3-2.

 

Oilers Continue Homestand Against Miners Thursday

The Oilers and Miners duel in game two of their five-game series Thursday night at 7 p.m at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

The series continues through Sunday, on Central Peninsula Hospital Prostate Cancer and Family Day at Coral Seymour Memorial Park. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on game worn jerseys by the Oilers.
