Peninsula Oilers Drop First Meeting Against Anchorage Glacier Pilots 5-2

The Peninsula Oilers, in a game of missed opportunities, fell to the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 5-2 on Saturday at Mulcahy Stadium. The Oilers (1-2) recorded two runs on six hits while the Pilots (2-1) scattered five runs on 10 hits.

The Pilots struck for the first run of the game in the second inning against Oilers starter Jake Fenn, who surrendered three-straight hits to start the inning, before stranding a pair of runners on base to keep the Pilots lead at 1-0.

Anchorage struck again in the third on a Matt Ottino lead-off home run against Fenn to double the Pilots lead to 2-0 through three innings.

Fenn, the losing pitcher for the Oilers threw three innings surrendering two runs on six hits in his first Alaska Baseball League appearance.

The Pilots added a pair of runs in the fourth against Oilers reliever Eric Reardon, who threw three innings of two-run ball in his second outing of the season.

The blue and white scored their fifth run of the game in the seventh against Oilers reliever Jacob Reed.

Oilers Paul Steffensen launched a solo home run to open the top of the ninth.  Skyler Messinger reached on a single and scored on a two-base, throwing error for the Oilers second run of the inning.  Calvin Farris flew to center field for the final out.  Final Score: Pilots 5, Oilers 2.

 

Oilers vs Pilots  Sunday, June 9th

The Oilers and Pilots close out their two-game set on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mulcahy Park.

The Oilers close out their opening five-game road trip on Monday against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks before the two teams travel to Kenai to open the Oilers season at Coral Seymour Memorial Park on Wednesday, June 12, the first of six games against the Chinooks.

 

Home Opener Set For June 12th

The first home stand of the season for the Peninsula Oilers, a six-game series against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks, is scheduled to open Wednesday, June 12th at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

Wednesday is KSRM/ESPN Night at the Ballpark with free admission to the ball park.
