Peninsula Oilers Drop Fourth Straight Against Anchorage Glacier Pilots

A late rally against the Peninsula Oilers pitching staff fueled the Anchorage Glacier Pilots to a 3-2 win on Sunday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in the fourth, consecutive win for the Pilots against the Oilers in Kenai.

The Pilots (13-9) can sweep the Oilers (7-16) with a win in the series finale on Monday night.

Pitching dominated early with both Eric Reardon and Peyton Carson throwing three shutout innings to begin Sunday’s match up.

The Oilers broke the seal in the bottom of the fourth against Carson with a John Mackay RBI groundout that plated Connor McCord from third base.

The Pilots tied the game in the fifth on a Daniel Mendez solo home run against Reardon to knot the game at 1-1.

The Oilers retook the lead in the sixth on a passed ball by Mendez behind the plate, allowing McCord to score the second run of the game to put the Oilers up 2-1.

The Pilots pounced on Oilers reliever Giancarlo Servin in the eighth inning with the help of the Oilers infield. Third baseman Bobby Goodloe committed his team-leading seventh error of the season on a ground ball between his legs.  Pilots took advantage with a Bradley Gneiting RBI double tying the game at 2-2.  Anchorage took a 3-2 lead on an EJ Andrews RBI single with two outs which plated Gneiting.

The Oilers threatened in the bottom of the eighth inning with the potential tying run at second base with two outs; however, Pilots reliever Zach Morgan ended the inning inducing a fly out by Skyler Messinger.

Morgan retired the Oilers in order in the ninth inning, securing the Pilots 3-2 win.

 

The win for the Pilots secured the season series (6-0)  in a best of 11-game regular season series against the Oilers.

Oilers conclude series Monday

The final game of the Oilers five-game series against the Pilots is scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m. at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.  Note the early game time!

The Oilers are off on Tuesday before beginning a six-game homestand against the Mat-Su Miners.
