The Peninsula Oilers fell into a deep hole on Tuesday against the reigning Alaska Baseball League champion Mat-Su Miners.  Eight Mat-Su runs in the first four innings propelled the Miners to a 8-4 win at Hermon Brothers Field.

Miners 8- Oilers 4

The Miners scored in each of the 3-plus innings against Oilers starter Joey Becher who was tagged for eight runs on seven hits in his first outing against Mat-Su this season.

A run in the first, four in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth; capped off by a two-run home run with no outs in the fourth, ended Becher’s night in the Valley.

The Oilers bullpen closed the door on the Miners through the final four frames. Combined outings from Giancarlo Servin, Steven Ordorica and Calvin Farris limited Mat-Su to three base runners (one hit) in innings five through eight.

The Oilers offense was highlighted by Damon Keith who drove in three of the Oilers four runs in the loss.
