Peninsula Oilers Drop Thriller To The Mat-Su Miners 8-7

The Peninsula Oilers drop a pulse-pounding Alaska Baseball League contest to the Mat-Su Miners 8-7 at Hermon Brothers Field on Thursday. With the win, the Miners improve to 12-8, the top record in the ABL, the loss slots the Oilers at 12-9, second in the standings.

The Oilers opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, a John Mackay RBI single plating Ryan Novis put the Oilers on top 1-0 after two innings.

The Miners struck for three runs in the bottom of the third inning against Oilers starter Ryan Silva on a three-run blast by Spencer Henson. The home run put the Miners up 3-1 after three innings.

The Miners added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, on three hits, which knocked Silva out of the game.

Oilers reliever Erikson Fish tossed an inning and a third in relief of Silva, the Miners scored two unearned runs on two hits against the right-hander.

The Oilers lessened the gap in the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits against a pair of Miners relievers, brining the score to 8-5.

After a scoreless eighth inning, the Oilers pounced on Miners reliever Malachi Emond for two runs, bringing the score to 8-7.

The Miners escaped the jam in the inning after getting Michael Yourg to strikeout with the Bryce Begell, the potential game-tying run at first base, which sealed the 8-7 win.

The season series between the Oilers and Miners is tied 2-2.

 

Road Trip Continues Throughout The Weekend

The Oilers for the second time in their seven-game road trip take on the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Oilers conclude the road trip against the Anchorage Bucs, with game one of a double header beginning Saturday at 5 p.m.

The final game of the road trip is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Oilers return to Coral Seymour Memorial Park on Wednesday against the Mat-Su Miners, in the first of a five-game homestand.
