Peninsula Oilers Fall 3-2 On Back-To-Back Nights Against Chinooks

Fifteen strikeouts recorded by Peninsula Oilers pitching proved not enough to overcome a six-hit performance by the Oilers bats; as the home team fell to the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 3-2 at Coral Seymour Memorial Park Saturday.   The Oilers dropped their second-straight game to the Chinooks and register their first back-to-back losses of the season.  The Oilers hold the top spot in the Alaska Baseball League with an 11-6 league record; the Chinooks improve to 7-9.

The Oilers opened the scoring on a first inning, solo home run by Ryan Koch, Koch’s fourth of the season staking the Oilers to a 1-0 lead.

Oilers starter Tevin Murray held the Chinooks batters in check through five and 1/3 innings, striking out a season-high eight batters.

In the top of the seventh, the Chinooks pounced on Oilers reliever Calvin Farris, scoring three runs, all coming with two outs for a 3-1 Chinook lead.

The Oilers managed a final run in the bottom of the ninth inning plating Koch on an RBI single by Michael Yourg.  With the possible tying run at second for the Oilers,  Chinooks reliever River Carbone got Bryce Begell to ground-out for the game’s final out and the Chinooks’ second straight victory.

 

Oilers Conclude Homestand Against Chinooks Sunday

The Oilers host the Chinooks for the final game of their five-game on Sunday, a sponsored, free day of baseball presented by Birch Ridge Community Church.  Game time scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Oilers opened a second, extended ABL  road trip Tuesday against the second-placed Mat-Su Miners at Hermon Brothers Field at 7 p.m.
