The Peninsula Oilers fell to the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks in the opening game of the season series against the Chinooks 8-3 at Lee Jordan Field on Saturday. The Oilers recorded only their third loss on the 2018 Alaska Baseball League season.
Chinooks 8 – Oilers 3
The Chinooks, behind a season high 13 hits, improved to 3-4, the Peninsula Oilers dropped to 7-3 with the loss; however, continue to lead the ABL standings.
The Oilers recorded four hits in the loss, two off the bat of Ryan Novis, who has seven hits in his last 17 at-bats.
The scoring opened with the Oilers plating Ryan Novis and Bryce Begell in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. The Chinooks answered with a three-run bottom of the second. An RBI single by Novis scored Evan Berkey tied the game at 3-3 in the third.
Peninsula Oilers relief pitcher Erikson Fish received the loss, allowing the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth inning, then two runs in the fifth. The Chinooks scored five, unanswered runs after the Oilers tied the game 3-3 in the top of the third.
Oilers starter Austin Merrill received a no-decision after tossing 2.1 innings.
Oilers Continue Their Road Trip Through The Weekend
The Oilers and Chinooks continue their season series Sunday night, in a double-header with game one beginning at 5 p.m. The second game is scheduled to begin half an hour after the conclusion of game one. The Sweeney’s Pregame Show on ESPN 1140AM begins at 4:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The Oilers conclude their opening road trip against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Monday with a regularly scheduled nine inning game at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage. Game time is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. The Sweeney’s Pregame Show on ESPN 1140AM begins at 6:50 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The Oilers return to Coral Seymour Memorial Park Wednesday, June 20th to open a five-game series with the Chinooks.
