Peninsula Oilers Force Game 3 Against Anchorage Bucs on Saturday

Same story, different chapter, happier ending!

 

The Peninsula Oilers with their season on the line live to see another day after a 4-2 win against the Anchorage Bucs on Friday at Mulcahy Stadium in game two of the opening round of the Top of the World Series.

 

A final showdown between the Bucs and Oilers is set for Saturday at 2 p.m,. at Mulcahy Stadium.

The winner of Saturday’s winner-take-all match-up will face the Anchorage Glacier Pilots on Sunday in game one of the championship series.

 

Oilers 4- Bucs 2

The Bucs scored twice, their only  of runs, in the opening frame against Oilers starter Eric Reardon. A Chaney Rogers RBI single and a Ryan Sullivan sacrifice fly got the Bucs off and running.

The Oilers added runs in the third and sixth innings to tie the game 2-2.

A Bobby Goodloe RBI single scored Jonathan Villa against Bucs starter Liam Henry in the third, and a Connor McCord RBI single in the sixth scored Goodloe to tie the game.

In the seventh, the Oilers erupted for two runs against reliever Ian Mejia. A Goodloe RBI single and a McCord sacrifice fly gave the Oilers their first lead.

After that, the Oilers didn’t look back.

Oilers relievers Jonathan Carlos and Heath Olive shutdown the Bucs over the last two innings to preserve the lead and lock-in the win.

Oilers: Bryan Woo; the ABL Top Prospect Award winner has appeared in two starts against the Bucs.  Anchorage has scored 12 runs (nine earned) in eight innings pitched against Woo.

Bucs: Mason Wells; the Bucs left-hander has made three starts against the Oilers. In 18 innings pitched against the Oilers, Wells has allowed three runs; he’s also struck out 18 batters allowing one walk.
