The Peninsula Oilers Basball Club is in full preparation mode for the upcoming 2021 Alaska Baseball League season with the Oilers building its competitive roster, hiring coaches and working with the ABL on a master schedule which will feature opening day on June 5th at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
The Peninsula Oilers have contracted with AJ LaMonda for the general manager position for 2021 (see profile below) and past gm and head coach Kyle Brown has been assisting with preparations for the baseball season. The Oilers are formulating mitigation protocols for games at Oilers Park and for coaches, players, personnel and spectators. The Oilers and the Mat-Su Miners are the two ABL teams (out of five) which are located outside of the Municipality of Anchorage, and as such, will operate under mitigation protocols for home contests contrary to the three teams within the Anchorage boundaries: Anchorage Glacier Pilots, Anchorage Bucs and the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.
The Alaska Baseball League’s success in conducting a 2021 baseball season lies with the ABL teams working with the Anchorage municipality to modify, or repeal, Emergency Order #19 and the Attachments E, H and I which directly affect outdoor gatherings and sporting events.
Some of the limiting regulations include (not limited to):
…Outdoor organized sports are allowed to host spectators provided not less than six
feet (6 ft.) physical distancing can be accommodated.
…Food service at organized sports activities is prohibited.
…• Masks or face coverings are required at all times for all athletes, players, coaches,
spectators and anyone else engaged in organized sports activities both indoors and
outdoors.
…Organized sports teams based in the Municipality of Anchorage are encouraged to
continue or complete one of the three Pre-Competition COVID Testing options.
Anchorage Municipality Emergency Order 19: Attachment E, Organized Sports
Anchorage Municipality Emergency Order 19: Attachment H: Entertainment
Anchorage Municipality Emergency Order 19: Attachment I: Gathering
The Oilers are preparing to head into the 2021 season with AJ LaMonda at the helm as General Manager. AJ is an assistant coach at national powerhouse Orange Lutheran High School where he leads the offense for the Lancers. At his time at Orange Lutheran the Lancers have won the National High School Invitational 3 consecutive years, won 3 league championships and has helped the Lancers make numerous playoff appearances. AJ primarily works with hitters, many of whom are playing Division 1 ranks as well as the minor leagues. AJ also works in the development program for USA Baseball that helps identify players to represent our country to play in numerous tournaments.
AJ is from Orange, California where he is a baseball coach and science teacher. He has a beautiful three-year-old daughter Ava, who is looking forward to her trip to the Peninsula for a summer visit. AJ is a former teammate of previous general manager Kyle Brown, where they spent two years together at Servite High School in Anaheim, California. AJ is excited for this amazing opportunity and can’t wait to be a part of our Oiler family.
