Peninsula Oilers Well Represented During 2018 Alaska Baseball League All-Star Sunday

The Peninsula Oilers put their mark on the 2018 Alaska Baseball League Home Run Derby and All-Star Game on Sunday at Mulcahy Stadium.

Ten Oilers represented the American League All-Star team, and both Oilers nominees competed in the first all-Oilers, home run derby final.

 

2018 ABL Home Run Derby:

Oilers representatives Ryan Koch and Chad Bible paved their way to history on Sunday, becoming the first pair of Oilers teammates to compete for the home run derby title, since the event’s inception in 2011.

Ryan Koch led the 10-man field with seven home runs, Chad Bible finished with six, to finish one home run ahead of both Mat-Su Miners representatives, to secure an all-Oilers final.

Koch defeated Bible in the final recording four home runs; Bible belted three.

Both men represented the Oilers in the All-Star Game.

 

2018 ABL All-Star Game:

Along with the Oilers coaching staff of Kyle Brown, Ryan Doran and Rolando Sanchez, five Oilers pitchers, and five position players represented the team on Sunday.  Pitchers Mike Lopez, Tevin Murray, Andrew Lopez and Tre Brown each tossed a scoreless inning in the game.

Matt Amrhein, the fifth Oilers pitcher named to the All-Star roster, was not eligible to pitch.

Paul Kunst, Grant Wood, Ryan Novis, along with Koch and Bible combined for three hits and an RBI at the plate for the American League all-stars, who defeated the National League 7-5.

 

The Oilers Resume Alaska Baseball League Action Monday

The Oilers resume their 2018 ABL regular season schedule against the Anchorage Bucs on Monday at 7 p.m. at Mulchay Stadium.

The Oilers conclude their road-trip against the Mat-Su Miners on July 20th at Hermon Brothers Field before returning to Coral Seymour Memorial Park on July 24th against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots to conclude their 2018 ABL regular season with a six-game home stand.
