Peninsula Oilers Win Third Straight Against Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks

The Peninsula Oilers flipped the script on Sunday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park. In contrast to being unable to cash in on scoring chances earlier in the week against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks, the Oilers banged in three runs in the second to take a 3-2 win against the Chinooks on Father’s Day.

 

The Oilers close the six-game, opening home stand with three, consecutive victories and split the series 3-3 with the Chinooks.

The Oilers bats came to life in the second inning and with an early lead, the pitching took over.

Oilers starter Brian Merken tossed two shutout innings, followed up by Jake Reed who allowed two runs on an Ethan English two-run home run in the fourth inning.

Oilers reliever Kyle Muller in his Alaska Baseball League debut, threw three scoreless innings and recorded a pair of strikeouts in the process.

Damon Keith, who made his second relief appearance of the summer, recorded the save for the Oilers racking up the final six outs, three by strikeout, to earn the save.  Final Score: Oilers 3, Chinooks 2

 

Oilers roadtrip begins on Tuesday

The Oilers travel to Palmer on Tuesday for the first of a four-game series against the three-time reigning ABL champions Mat-Su Miners at 7 p.m. at Herman Brothers Field.

The Oilers eight-game roadtrip includes four games against the Miners, three against the Chinooks and a single game on June 25th against the Anchorage Bucs.

 

 

Notables:

Camden Vasquez: 11-game hit streak and leads the ABL in batting average (.487).

Bobby Goodloe:  eight-game hitting streak and fourth highest average hitter (.324) in the league.

The Oilers lead the ABL in cumulative batting average (.281)
