Fellman: “Maybe the harness straps are too loose, or maybe they’re in the wrong slot, or maybe it’s that the seat is too loose in the vehicle or the seat’s not secured tight. The two most common misuses are that either the child’s not in the seat correctly or the seat’s not in the vehicle correctly.”

She says another problem is that children often outgrow their car seats quickly and the Coalition can provide low-cost car seats to families in need.

Fellman: “We ask for a donation of $35 but we do have affordable seats available for families that can’t go to the retail market and buy one.”

Fellman says appointments to check car- or booster-seat safety can be made by calling her office at 714-4696.
