Peninsula Runners Impress At Colony Invitational

Soldotna High School’s Sophia Jedicki topped the field in the girls varsity race with five peninsula girls finishing in the top ten at the Colony Invitational Cross Country Meet in the Valley on Saturday.

In the boys competition, Homer’s Seamus McDonough finished second, the only peninsula boy in the top-15.

 

Colony Invitational: Girls Results

Sophia Jedicki, of SoHi, held of Colony’s Ella Hopkins posting a winning time of 19:47 and winning by 19 seconds.  Seward’s Hailey Ingalls finished third running 20:13; Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra placed fourth in 20:20; SoHi’s Tania Boonstra placed sixth in 21:07 and Kenai’s Emilee Wilson finished ninth in 21:51

The SoHi girls placed second in the team scoring behind Colony High School.

The Knights recorded 34 points, SoHi was second at 49, Homer was third at 61.

Top finishers for Soldotna High included: Annie Burns was 12th at 22:17, Laurel Johnson was 21st at 23:01, Delainie Wagers was 24th at 23:16, Kaytlin McAnelly was 25th at 23:17 and Megan Whittom was 28th at 23:25.

Top finishers for KCHS included: Emily Moss was 26th in 23:17 and Mya Taylor was 53rd in 26:27. Also for Seward, Aly Guernsey was 17th in 22:49 and Stella Dow was 49th in 25:40.

 

Colony Invitational: Boys Results

The Colony boys earned a surprising team victory over powerhouse Grace Christian.

Grace’s David Sliwinski posted a time of 16:03 followed by Seamus McDonough of Homer.

The Colony boys placed four runners in the top seven earning 35 team points; Grace finished second at 38, Homer was third at 74, Soldotna was fourth at 126 and Kenai was seventh at 181.

Top finishers for Soldotna High included: Jacob Strausbaugh was 18th in 18:08, Jonathan Gordon was 21st in 18:33, Noble Cassidy was 27th in 18:52, Finnley Loop was 35th in 19:22, Levi Mickelson was 36th in 19:22, Elijah Jedlicki was 38th in 19:26 and Isaac Chavarria was 48th in 20:00.

Top finishers for KCHS included: Jack Laker was 17th in 18:05, Chase Laker was 25th in 18:40, Zane Tews was 44th in 19:45, Vail Coots was 54th in 21:04, Logan Cartwright was 56th in 21:17 and Cooper Darling was 59th in 21:54.
