Each week throughout the high school sports 2023-24 competitive seasons, KSRM/ESPN selects a Peninsula Sports Athlete of the Week from each of the central peninsula’s three public high schools.
For the week ending August 15th:
- Representing the Kenai Kardinals is football running back/linebacker Bobby Hayes
- Hayes rushed for two touchdowns in the Kardinal’s home victory over Kodiak on August 11th, the second a touchdown rush of 49 yards. Hayes also caught a pass for a gain of 35 yards in the second quarter.
- Leading the pack for the Nikiski Bulldogs is football quarterback Ethan Ellis
- While Nikiski does not begin their season until this Friday against Eielson, Ellis’s coaches praised his performance on the field during the team’s recent scrimmage.
- Selected for the Soldotna Stars is football halfback/linebacker Wyatt Faircloth.
- Faircloth caught two touchdown passes, and rushed for a third touchdown in Soldotna’s road win over Lathrop on August 12th in Wasilla.
