Each week throughout the high school sports 2024-25 competitive seasons, KSRM/ESPN selects a Peninsula Sports Athlete of the Week from each of the central peninsula’s three public high schools.
For the week of May 12th:
- Kenai Kardinals Athlete of the Week is track and field hurdler Delen Byrd.
- At the Soldotna Invite, Delen posted a time of 17.22 in the 300-meter hurdles, the 7th fastest in school history.
- Nikiski Bulldogs Athlete of the Week is track and field thrower Rex Wittmer.
- Over the past weekend, Rex posted his best shot put throw, beating his previous personal record by more than three feet.
- Soldotna Stars Athlete of the Week is track and field Senior Annie Burns.
- Annie broke two meet records at the Anchorage Invite on Saturday. She won the 800m in meet record time and was also a member of the winning 4×400 team. The 4×400 time was the fastest run in school history, with Annie’s split at 59.72 seconds.
