Peninsula Sports spotlights senior athletes from the central peninsula’s three public high schools recognizing outstanding student athletes for their individual accomplishments and contributions to their schools extra-curricular programs.

Chelsea Plagge

The KCHS senior has been a mainstay of Kardinal volleyball and track & field throughout her career at Kenai Central High School.

Volleyball

In 2019, Chelsea helped lead the Kardinal girls to their first state tournament appearance since 2005 as Kenai advanced to the championship game against Homer.  The Kards fell in a 30-point, winner-take-all final game to the Homer mariners.  Kenai also finished second at the Southcentral Conference Volleyball tournament.

Track

The 2019 track and field season was highlighted by a state championship in Division II for the Kenai Kardinal girls which included an individual championship for Chelsea in the girls triple jump and a second place in the girls long jump.  Chelsea jumped 33′ 1″ in the finals in the triple jump. Chelsea also was a member of the Kenai championship 4X100M Relay and 4X200M relay teams.  At the Region III 3A meet, Chelsea won the triple jump with a KCHS school record jump of 34′ 4 3/4″.
