Peninsula Sports spotlights senior athletes from the central peninsula’s three public high schools recognizing outstanding student athletes for their individual accomplishments and contributions to their schools extra-curricular programs.
Representing Soldotna High School: Journey Miller & Ryann Cannava
Journey Miller
Hockey
Journey earned varsity letters for the Stars for three seasons and was a major contributor to SoHi’s back-to-back Railbelt Conference championships (2019-2020) and a Division II state hockey championships runner-up finish in 2020.
Journey has committed to play Division I hockey for the Mankato Mavericks in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2020-21 college hockey season. playing for the Minnesota State University, Mankato located in Mankato, Minnesota.
Soccer
Journey tallied 34 goals and had 24 assists through three seasons. Post-season awards included: All-Region Second Team as a freshman, All-Peninsula Conference First Team as a sophomore, and All-Peninsula Conference First Team and All-State Team as a junior in 2019. Journey helped the Stars to back-to-back conference championships, a third-place state finish in 2018 and state runner-up in 2019. Journey and her teammates were definitely in a position to repeat the accomplishments from last year and even bring home SoHi’s first-ever state soccer title.
Ryann Cannava
Soccer
As a teammate of Journey on the Soldotna girls soccer team, Ryann’s team accomplishments mirror SoHi’s past three seasons results. Individually, Ryann recorded 14 goals and had 30 assists through three seasons. Ryann was named to All-Region Second Team as a freshman, All-Peninsula Conference First Team as a sophomore, and All-Peninsula Conference First Team and All-State as a junior in 2019.
Ryann Cannava signed to play collegiate soccer at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington.
