Peninsula Teams Compete In Full Weekend Of Volleyball

Eighteen teams from three classifications competed in the 2021 Grace Lady Grizzlies Volleyball Tournament, with pool play filling the Friday and Saturday morning schedule and bracket play on Saturday determining the champions in three brackets: Platinum, Gold and Silver.

 

Kenai Kardinals

The Kenai Kardinals recorded a fourth-place finish in the Platinum Bracket.  Kenai finished pool play with a 6-2 record.

The Kardinals fell to Homer in the first round of the Platinum Bracket 20-14 and 20-17.  Kenai rebounded with 20-13, 21-19 victory over Palmer in the elimination bracket.  The Kardinals were knocked-out by Valdez 25-23, 20-14 earning Kenai 4th-place in the Platinum Bracket.

Soldotna Stars

The SoHi volleyball team placed fourth in the Gold Bracket.  The Stars finished pool play with a 4-4 record.

SoHi opened bracket play with a three set 20-18, 18-20, 4-3 victory over Seward.  SoHi dropped a 20-18, 20-11 match to Kodiak.  In the elimination round, the Stars defeated Su-Valley 20-16, 20-12.  SoHi was eliminated by Grace 8-20 and 14-20.

Nikiski Bulldogs

The Bulldogs, after a 2-6 pool play record, finished second in the Silver Bracket falling in the title game to Monroe with the Rams taking the final set 30-18.  Nikiski opened the bracket play with a victory over Barrow 20-18, 18-20 and 5-1.  Nikiski defeated Dimond JV 25-23 and 20-11 to advance to the semi-final against Monroe.  The Rams dropped the Bulldogs 20-15, 20-17 sending Nikiski to the double back game and win over Dmond JV 20-18, 13-20, 13-9.  Nikiski’s rematch with Monroe forces a first-to-30 final set after Nikiski took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-21.
