Red Run Cannabis Company, the Kenai Peninsula’s first adult-use cannabis retail store and cultivation operation, opened to a line of patrons, Monday November 21st at Noon.
Lance Hunt was the first person in line.
Hunt: “This is just huge for the Peninsula and I’m glad I could be apart of the first Marijuana legal sale here. And it’s been a long road for most of us who have been fighting”
Among the many customers waiting in line for the opening, Sharon Cetz expressed her excitement that has been a long time coming.
Cetz: “40 years ago, in California, I went around with petitions to get it decriminalized and it didn’t make it. But we gave it heck. So years and years later and years and years later, I’m at a store where it’s legal and I’m apart of history in Alaska. So, I’m excited.”
Store Co-owner Mark Theiler said the retail store prepared for the initial, opening day rush of over 200 customers by pre-packaging product.
Mark Theiler: ” As far as diversity, we have got a product but its more a diversity issue. We have a packaged product that will be coming in tomorrow and throughout the next couple of days. To make it very simple for people before Thanksgiving we’ve been doing sample packs, which basically give five samples of Greatland Ganja. That’s the only vendor right now in the state so we’ve put together one gram sample packs, and those have gotten ripped through very quickly, we sold out of those very quickly. We are really constituting more and have more of those on the way so we’ll stick with those sample packs until this first supply runs its course.”
As a result of opening day sales and product availability, Theiler believes Red Run may be out of product in the next few days.
Mark Theiler: “The majority of the sample packs were gone in the first couple hours and I would expect realistically if I had to gauge, but Wednesday before Thanksgiving i would believe we could be completely out of everything. Where we would have nothing and we can not open the doors.”
The commercial operation is located on the Kenai Spur Highway, between Soldotna and Kenai at Mile 5.5 of the Kenai Spur. Regular operating hours will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
