Pet Safety for Halloween

Author: KSRM News Desk |

Halloween is Friday and safety for furry family members should be kept in mind.

Kenai Chief Animal Control Officer Cora Chambers…

Chambers: “So pets during Halloween is a lot of fun, pets can be dressed up in costumes, it’s a little entertaining for us. To keep pets safe during Halloween it is really important that you make sure that those trick-or-treater candies that we or the kids collect up are put in a place where the animals cannot get to them, chocolate and high amounts of sugar can cause animals to be very sick and or be deadly if they affect high amounts of them.”

She also suggested keeping pets in a safe, quiet room during Halloween so they are not frightened by costumes and decorations or injured in traffic.

Chambers also spoke about the Peninsula Spay and Neuter Fund’s bake sale that will be from 11 am to 6 pm on Halloween.

Chambers: “We worked hand in hand because obviously they are helping to get more animals fixed by assisting with the cost of that for pet owners and they are actually doing a bake sale that is going to be at Save-U-More selling all kinds of goodies that we are aware of and they are also going to be handing out information to pet owners in regards to the assistance that they offer for spays and neuters of their cats and dogs.”
