City Councilor Pete Sprague intends to run for Soldotna mayor if current Mayor Nels Anderson’s resignation is accepted.

As we previously reported, Anderson’s resignation letter was received last week, wherein he asked to be appointed to the office of Mayor until this October’s municipal elections.

The Soldotna City Council is slated to discuss that process Wednesday night and Sprague said if it’s accepted…

Cm. Sprague: “There will be a race for mayor for the election in October and I do intend to file to be a candidate.”

If that happens, he said there will be a few things he’ll focus on for the city during the race.

Cm. Sprague: “City’s in excellent shape right now and I think it’s important to keep looking at the future to keep the city on firm footing. And one of the issues that we’ll be addressing obviously will be annexation.”

Sprague’s council seat term is set to end in October of 2017.

The Soldotna City Council Meeting will begin at 6 pm on Wednesday, July 8, in the Soldotna City Hall.
