Chase Duncan of Kasilof has filed a petition for the recall of Assembly Member Kelly Wolf.
We asked him if the recall had to do with Wolf’s introduction of a borough ordinance to prohibit marijuana cultivation operations.
Duncan: “I’m not fighting for marijuana or marijuana laws anything of the sort, I’m fighting for… I’ll read the last paragraph of the petition: Furthermore, the people of the Kenai Peninsula Borough have the right to be free from unfair, unjust and incompetant representation, thus it is our opinion Kelly Wolf has failed to provide this to the people of the Kenai Peninsula.”
Borough Clerk Johni Blankenship said the borough has until February 6 to accept the petition but must first determine if it is in-line with Alaska State Statute Title 29 Article 3 which outlines the definition, grounds, and requirements of the recall process.
Blankenship: “And the grounds for recall are misconduct in office, incompetence, or failure to perform prescribed duties.”
She said Duncan’s petition has the ten signatures required to file initially and is now going through the legal process.
Wolf spoke with KSRM but said he would not comment on the petition until after it is accepted by the borough if that happens.
If the petition is accepted, Duncan will need to garner signatures equal to 25 percent of the number of votes cast for that office, which in this case is equal to 126 total signatures from residents of Wolf’s district.
Wolf was elected to his current seat representing the K-Beach District 1 in 2013 and his term expires this fall.
